Wow…

Sometimes God speaks to you clearly and directly. I
was wondering how I could make more money, maybe even thinking about
another job. Well, the other day a woman walks right up to me at work
and asks if I know anyone that would be interested in teaching
photography at the parks and rec center in Chantilly! Umm… yeah! So
I’ve applied, I figure I’ve got a good chance at getting the position,
especially since the class starts on 06/26. There are two classes, each
meets once a week. They don’t have any darkrooms there, so they will
have to shoot slide film (hmm, I assume they have a projector laying
around there somewhere). It sounds ideal to me. No, I’m sure the pay
sucks, but it would be more than what I’m getting now. More
importantly, it would be something else to put on my resume…
I’ll be going down to Dad’s and Butler’s for
Father’s day tomorrow through Sunday. Should be fun, Nathan will be
making some sort of feast and it’s always relaxing down there. I just
hope the traffic isn’t too bad, it was brutal today. I’ll be back on
monday.

Gah…

Well, I found another negative carrier for my
enlarger on Ebay. This time I just bought the damn thing instead of
going through the excitement of being outbid again. Paid about 100
bucks, but that seems like what it takes to get one of these things.
Anyway, that means that all I need now is a folding banquet table and I
can actually make prints from my 35mm negs again! Yippee! Of course if
I don’t shoot any, it doesn’t really matter I suppose. Oh well, I’m
very close to having a working darkroom for 35mm and 5×7 contacts, and
I’m excited…

Google search

At long last I managed to pull up my web site via a
google search. If you do a search on scale free economies, my site will
show up on the third page of hits. If you put that search in quotation
marks, I’m the only thing that comes up. Nothing else is unique enough
at this point to warrent being in the top ten pages of a Google search
as far as I can tell. I know it isn’t a big thing, but I feel like my
site in finally really out there. Doubt that it’ll impact the traffic
though…:-)

Hey Smashing Pumpkins fans!

I was sent to a web site with lots and lots of
Smashing Pumpkins and Billy Corgan demos and live stuff (thanks
Randy!). There are lots and lots of MP3s there for the taking, and it’s
all free and legal! They do make it a bit of a pain in the ass to
download stuff, so if you want the whole thing, it might be easier for
me to send you a cd or two instead… Here’s the link

http://www.billy-corgan.com/downloads/mp3/index.php

Oh by the way, I’ve added another thing to my web site. I’ve also
reorganized it with future additions planned. The new keyboard and
monitor have worked so far, I’ve done lots more typing. Hopefully I’ll
get the quality stuff along with the quantity…

Dog shit

My life revolves around dog shit. I have to be home
at a certain time to avoid it inside. I can’t go away for the weekend
without planning otherwise the house will be full of it. I have to walk
the dog every damn night so that I can pick it up outside instead of
inside. Despite my best planning, the dog has all but ruined the
upstairs hallway with it. I’m done with dogs, I didn’t want this one,
and I’m sure as hell never owning another one. Yes I’m a bit bitter,
you would be too if you had to clean this mess up. I’ve stopped for the
night because my back and legs were already sore from work and I can’t
bend over any longer today. Sorry, just had to vent…

A few music thoughts

It’s really cool having a massive music library.
There is lots of stuff on my hard drive that I haven’t heard yet and
this morning was one of those great moments of discovery. There is a
song I love by William Bell called “Every day will be like a holiday”.
It’s one of those great, old songs that no one has ever heard of. I
have always wished that someone would cover it. Turns out that someone
had, and it’s in my collection! Mojo Nixon of all people put it on his
Christmas album. Mojo isn’t exactly a musical genius, but he means
everything he sings:-)
I’ve put my pop schlock playlist over 3 cds in my
car. I’ve been going to work listening to things like “Venus” by
Shocking Blue, “Volare” by Bobby Rydell, “Would you like to swing on a
star” by Sinatra, and a bunch of other stuff. It’s a lot of fun… Some
bands/people show up more than others, there are many with single
appearences like the ones mentioned above plus Cheap Trick, Doris Day,
The Beau Brummels, etc, and there are some that show up many times. The
three that show up the most are Madonna, Duran Duran, and ABBA. Now
that’s pop schlock!

Well…

Apple did indeed go with Intel chips, x86 based ones
at that. So I got that part right, but they didn’t introduce any new
hardware. Guess that makes sense, it took the entire time to explain
and reassure people about the switch. My hardware predictions still
stand, but I don’t know what kind of timeframe we should expect. I
still anticipate getting the new version of the Mac Mini regardless of
what kind of processor it has. All I need is a little more RAM, a
better graphics card, and some time to save:-) I really think that this
will be the start of a great thing for Apple.

We’ll know in about an hour..

OK, Steve Jobs keynote speech will be done in about
an hour an a half. Here’s my predictions on what is going to happen
regarding the whole switch to Intel stuff. Steve will announce the
immediate switch from the Freescale based G4 systems in the laptops and
the Mac Mini. The G4 spec is really a dead end. These new machines will
run under emulation to make the transition seamless. In additon to the
new chipset, the Mac Mini will also get more RAM and a better graphics
system.
The Powermac range will get a speed bump, and maybe
PCI express. I think for now Apple will leave the G5 systems
alone.  In the future, they’ll decide what to put in the top of
the line systems based on what’s availible. If chip speeds get fast
enough, they may base the Mac line on a virtual CPU and simply use
emulation so that they can use whatever chip specs out the best. It’s
exciting times to be a Mac guy, we’ll see how accurate I am in about 2
hours!

Updated my website

And no, it’s not any of the topics I promised
earlier. This is just a little rambling about the Pixies and Frank
Black’s later recordings. There’s a few typos, but I don’t feel like
correcting them just right now. I gotta get back to the rumor sites and
try to figure out what Apple will actually do tomorrow…

Big news for Apple tomorrow…

The net’s abuzz with the story that Apple will
announce that they will switch to Intel as their primary chip supplier.
Many Mac fans are terrified, I’m pretty excited. I love the OS, the
style, and the reliability of the Macs, but let’s face facts, the
hardware is usually lacking in comparison to the more mainstream
hardware manufacturers. This is especially true when you look at price
and laptops as the primary targets. Apple has been lagging rather badly
with it’s laptop line, neither IBM or Freescale (formally motorola)
seem to be able to produce a competitive chip. Intel has one hell of a
mobile processor, let’s hope that Apple can make the transition
smoothly with minimal software upgrade pain.
