I just got a shipping notification for my new synth!
It’s the MuSonics Vanilla Synthesizer in the smaller, more portable Dreadnok case. It has the filter, LFO, and envelope of the Oberheim SEM 2 voice, another LFO based on a Korg one from the 70s, a Moog mixer, and modified Moog oscillators. The sounds I have heard from it are just epic.
At first glance it looks like a 5U/MU modular synthesizer. It is one of those but it is actually a semi-modular synth because you don’t have to patch any cables at all to play it. It has “normalled” connections but they can be broken/rerouted using patch cables. Just plug a MIDI keyboard into it and start playing.
This will join my existing Serge modular panels, Neutron, and Lyra 8 for noise making. I have a format tumbler from Low Gain so I can patch the Serge and the Vanilla synth. I will have the case finished in a way to keep the lighter color. I think it looks great and it will be a nice homage to the original SEM 2 voice. It’s case is what inspired the Vanilla name after all.
