My
Political Leanings
by: Isaac Crawford
Living
near DC, politics is even more polarized then in other
parts of the country. The question of party affiliation
comes up now and again. I can comfortably say that neither
party fits what I believe in. When I am asked if I am
liberal or conservative, I get really confused. Socially
liberal? Economically liberal? The terms right and left
really don’t make much sense to me either.
So
if anyone cares, I am a free market, antiabortion,
anti-capital punishment, gay marriage supporter. I am
against the flag burning amendment, against gun control,
against farm subsidies, pro “right to work”,
believe in a strict separation of church and state (despite
being a Christian), and believe the ACLU does important
work. I believe that George Bush should be impeached for
his role in selling a false bill of goods to us. I think
that being able to employ Indian workers from here is a
great thing. The “Patriot act” is the worst
thing to ever happen to the bill of rights.
So
you can see why I find both parties less than satisfying.
The Republican social platform is repugnant and the
Democratic fiscal policies are usually disastrous. So when
it comes time to vote, I don’t bother, I will mostly
hate whoever gets elected. I try to stay the hell away from
any sort of political discussions, hope you see why
now!
